When talking about website maintenance the most common questions we get is, “why do I need someone to maintain my website?”
Second only to that is, “what even is website maintenance?”
Website Maintenance: What is it?
There are, assuredly, going to be many different definitions for website maintenance. When we use that term we mean keeping your site up to date, secure, and functioning as well as possible.
Unlike your body which has built-in systems for achieving homeostasis, your website naturally decays over time. This isn’t any fault to the original developer, rather, it’s a byproduct of technology. As the years go on technology increases and improves exponentially. If you’re not making a conscious effort to update to your site then it’s going to deteriorate.
We’ve carefully modeled and designed our maintenance plans to keep your WordPress websites as healthy as possible. All of them include the basics:
- Automated WordPress Updates
- Automated Theme Updates
- Automated Plugin Updates
- Security Audits
- Offsite Backups
The reason why these are the basics are because of how WordPress is built.
How WordPress Works
WordPress is a great open source platform. It’s completely free and has great potential due to its almost limitless customizability. However, that’s also the cause of its greatest weakness.
Hackers and other ne’er-do-wells love out of date plugins, themes, and WordPress installations. They’re the easiest way to exploit a website.
Sure, you can update your own plugins and whatnot, but how often do you do it? Do you ever forget to login every day and update them? Of course you do. That’s why we update your information every single day. This keeps your site in tip-top shape.
Varying levels of security audits are run to ensure that your site is secured further. We use trusted anti-malware scanning systems such as Sucuri. We fix everything that our audits tell us needs fixing. If, for whatever reason, we can’t fix it, we let you know what the issue is.
Last, but not least, the offsite backups. Most web hosting companies will do backups for you, shouldn’t those be enough?
Not in our opinion and experience.
We find these backups to be incomplete, irregular, and often hard to access. In contrast, the backups that we create are stored on Amazon’s S3 Cloud. They’re secure, easy to access, and complete. Additionally, because they’re not stored with your hosting company there’s no risk of them being corrupted or down if anything happens to your site or hosting account.
Why do I need Website Maintenance?
This is what we do day in and day out. Websites are our bread and butter; they’re our livelihood and what we love to do.
You’re busy: a business owner, a stay-at-home parent trying to make a buck, or someone just playing around with their first website.
Instead of you spending your precious time doing monotonous maintenance, let us handle that for you. We’ll save you time, which saves you money and energy. With that extra energy and time you’ll be able to dedicate yourself to what you love to do.
Besides the basic maintenance described above, we can do a myriad of other helpful maintenance items:
- Remove Post Revisions & Auto Drafts
- 24/7 Uptime & Downtime Monitoring
- Performance Recommendations
- Traffic Analytics Reports
- Broken Link Testing
- Webmaster Time
Our customers love the Webmaster Time. This is time that you basically let us know what you need done to your site, and we do it. Whether it’s updating content, figuring out new keywords to use, or eliminating redundant pages, it’s up to you. We are here to serve you and make your website the best that it can be.
